About American Hemochromatosis Society - AHS
Also known as iron overload disease or "genetic iron poisoning" hereditary hemochromatosis is the most common genetic disease in the United States.
Hereditary hemochromatosis can affect both sexes and all ages. 1 in 8 are carriers of the single hereditary hemochromatosis gene mutation and approximately 1 in every 100-200 have the double mutation gene placing them at a high risk of developing hereditary hemochromatosis.
Most individuals with the HH gene mutations don't release they have them. However they can be diagnosed easily and quickly.
The mission of the American Hemochromatosis Society (AHS) is:
"to educate and support the victims of HFE-associated hereditary hemochromatosis (genetic iron overload) and their families as well as educate the medical community on the latest research on Hereditary Hemochromatosis"
