A motor neuron disease, Spinal Muscular Dystrophy is a condition which affect muscles throughout the body. The proximal muscles closest to the trunk of the body are often the most affected (e.g. back hips and shoulders). This may include weakness in legs; feeding and swallowing may also be affected. Patients with Spinal Muscular Atrophy are often grouped into one of four categories depending on where motor function is affected.
